It was in 1933 that Georg Nilsson started the business that became Nelson Garden AB. He began by selling seeds by mail order from the small village of Belganet in Sweden’s south-eastern county of Blekinge. The original name of the company was Bröderna Nilssons Frö but there were in the same village two other Nilsson brothers operating in a different area of business, so Georg decided to avoid confusion by changing the trading name to Nelson.

When his sons Siwert and Torsten took over in 1978 they felt inclined to cross the county boundary, and in 1981 they moved the company to newly built premises on Lokgatan in Tingsryd in Småland. Now adays the company is owned by Torsten Nilsson alone.

Steadily growing sales in Nordic countries - the move to Tingsryd proved a great success. The Lokgatan site has grown to over 16,000 square metres and the company’s products are now retailed via more than 11,000 outlets all over the Nordic countries.

The product range has also expanded to include not only seed but also bulbs, gardening appliances and accessories, birdseed etc. Nelson Garden AB is now a market leader in its field.
